Week 9

This week we are showing what we have learned and how we can write information reports.  We will be planning and start writing our final information reports.  In Maths we have started subtraction strategies and will be moving into formal subtraction next week. Homework this week is to complete Mental Maths Unit 8, finish our grids and of course reading each night.  On Thursday, I will ask students to again watch the video on turning planning into writing to make sure they are refreshed and ready to writ their reports on Friday.  Don't forget that Friday is also our performance assembly!! Unfortunately I will not be in the class Tuesday or Thursday this week as I need to be in Bunbury for training.  I have spoken to the students about this. Have a great week and hopefully I will see you on Friday!!

Week 9 - Saint Mary MacKillop College Visit

On Wednesday, the Year 4's will travel to Saint Mary MacKillop College to experience a day in the life of MacKillop.  They will leave school at 10am, returning for approximately 2pm.  This provides students with an opportunity to see and experience some of the activities and lessons that the college provides.  It also provides an opportunity for you as  parents to have a look around the campus and enjoy a morning tea.  If you would like to have a look around the College, they are open for tours from 10:30. Students are to wear sports uniform and take their packed lunch with them to  Saint Mary MacKillop College, although they will be provided morning tea.  Please contact Fran in the office to let her know if your child has any dietary requirements.

Week 8

This week marks only one week until our performance assembly.  Students are madly practicing our assembly, which I am sure will be both entertaining and informative. This week we are working on writing information reports as we break them down and examine the features and language that are used.  We are working on identifying the main point in what we read, which will help us with our paragraph writing. Below is the mental maths video for this week.  We have practiced this in class but please watch again and review prior to Thursday as we will begin mental subtraction strategies towards the end of the week. http://www.showme.com/sh/?h=3CSzpGy Students have glued their homework grids and spelling into their books as always, while Mental Maths is Unit 7. Adrian and I will be holding our three way interviews during week 10 as I have three days in Bunbury next week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).  I will place an interview schedule on the board so please write your name next to

Week 7

I can't believe it is week 7 already, time is moving way too fast!! This week we are practicing our assembly item for week 9 (keep that in your diaries)!! We are working on improving our information reports that we started last week on our houses and have started using the formal addition algorithm. With time constraints today, we haven't written in our diaries but the homework will involve the homework grid (spelling, reading and mental maths).  Mental maths this week is made of Day 5 from units 4, 5 and 6.  We will soon start subtraction strategies in the mental maths book but want to spend this week focused on the addition algorithm without working on subtraction at home. Students will also bring home a 9 times tables fortune teller to make and practice their times tables! On a different note, if anybody has two halves of a coconut we could use, please let me know as we need them for our assembly. Thanks for your ongoing support Sean McSevich

Good Morning Welcome to week 6, boy time is flying!! This week we are finishing our work on procedures and will be producing our class "Advanced Potion Making" reference book!  Towards the end of the week we will begin our unit on Information Reports and I have included a video below on how we will plan an information report.  Our first information report will be about our house which we will be planning in class.  To ensure we hit the ground running armed with background knowledge of the task, please set aside time before Thursday to watch the video below and start talking about what your child could include in their report about their house. Other homework for this week includes unit 6 of our mental maths book and our homework grids.  I love to see the number of white boxes that some students are completing during the week, especially the 'Jobs at Home'! I didn't put up this weeks mental strategy video over the weekend as we have been working on a very
