Good afternoon, As I sit and write this blog, I am suffering with a severe case of d éjà v u. With the combination of swimming lessons, parent evenings, introduction of iPads, mass and assembly, I can now see why it was a race to the finish line to complete the work I set out to do this week.  Despite all this, we still managed to cover some key learning outcomes this week.   CLASSROOM In Mathematics, we have got into our 'Number' unit revising odd and even numbers, place value and comparing and ordering numbers using the symbols > (greater than) and < (less than). The children have then consolidated this learning, through using their iPads to complete set Mathletics tasks. Within Literacy we have continued learning our Persuasive model text, as well as, identifying the structure of this genre. Good afternoon all, Where did that weekend go? I am sitting in disbelief that it is Sunday afternoon, and we are about to begin Week 3 of Term 1! Let's hope this year slows down at some point! CLASSROOM Last week we completed some key activities that helped launch us into our Persuasive writing genre. As a class, we are learning a model text called 'Pet Sloths at School is a Must', through the use of genre mapping. This is where we map out (see pic below) the text using symbols and actions, allowing the students to learn the text autonomously. Thus when analysing this and other persuasive texts,  it will be easier for us to draw back to the key features, such as time connectives and rhetorical questions, within the model text. Good afternoon parents, I hope you are well and the week is flying by, getting us a closer to the weekend ahead! I am writing to you to clarify the recent news the children received about Sally the Sloth in class, as I know there has been a lot of excitement around this.  As part of the Talk4Write PD I completed before school started this term, I was taught a new concept of when introducing a new writing genre, try to create a 'hook' to get the students really excited, engaged and wanting to learn more about the subject. At the start of this Term we are focusing on Persuasive writing, therefore the 'hook' I created was that Sally the sloth is apart of a breeding program at the Perth Zoo and I had made an application to have the chance to babysit Sally for a week. My application was approved and told them in a couple of weeks (after her immunisations of course), I will be able to drive up to Perth to collect her for a week. I...

Good evening all, What a busy and productive start to the year! The children have already worked so hard, I wouldn’t be surprised if they are exhausted this evening. I know I am! CLASSROOM This week we completed some key activities that have helped set the environment we want to create in our Year 4 classroom. One of these activities being our goal setting for the Term. The students were required to identify the learning traits they would like to develop to be a successful learner and then apply the ‘SMART’ acronym to write meaningful goals. Be sure to quiz your child on what the acronym means or pop in to see the goals they’ve set! We also took the opportunity to review our school values and create a Value’s Wall that depicts how we can show CARE in and outside the classroom. Just a couple of reminders for the OLC Beach Day... Students are to come in free dress with clothing appropriate for the beach.  Please make sure your child comes with suncream already applied, packed recess and lunch, towel and a hat. All students must wear a rashie! We will arrive at the beach at 11.45am. We will have lunch when we arrive and then we will hit the activities. You are welcome to join us for any part of the day. We will be departing at approximately 2.30pm to come back to school.  Reports will be handed to the students back at school at the end of the day. Have a great day!

Welcome to week 8. This week we are going back over money and how we can determine change from purchasing problems.  We are also reading the picture book 'Fox' and finalising our totems. Homework this week includes spelling words that were sent home today, mathletics tasks around money and a readingeggs task. Students also need to ensure they have all necessary components to finish their totems tomorrow.  If your child hasn't brought in their materials, please ensure they are here tomorrow. Attached below is a letter about our planned excursion to the ArtGeo cultural precint in busselton.  A hard copy will be coming home with your child tomorrow but please read and return the permission slip by Friday.
