Week 7 Term 2

Good morning,

I'm hoping you've had a restful weekend so far and the children have been able to recoup after their
big performance on Friday night! I was so proud of them, as they did such an amazing job! Just to see the excitement and then the sense of achievement afterwards was priceless! Thank you to all of you for being so supportive with the make-up and costumes, it can not run so seamlessly without wonderful parents by our sides.

CLASSROOM
Congratulations to Hannah Kerr on receiving the Star Citizen Award last week. She is such a wonderful role model to have in our class!

I also congratulate Banjo and Toby on receiving a Merit award at Friday's assembly, they are working hard to achieve their best.

Religion
We are in full swing in preparing for the First Eucharist this coming Sunday 17th June. Last week we were learning about the different parts of the mass and the crucial prayers and gestures the students have to know when receiving Communion. We will continue to practice these next week. On Friday, we were lucky to have Amie Meyer come to the class and go through the process of receiving the bread and the wine. The students were then able to role play the event using unconsecrated hosts, in preparation for Sunday.

RECONCILIATION
On Tuesday 12th June, after lunch  all of the students will be involved in a Reconciliation Liturgy with Father Ian. After the Liturgy, the students will have an opportunity to individually sit with Father Ian and participate in Reconciliation. I will prepare the students for this on Monday, however I do ask that you speak with your child and ask them to think about what sins they may seek forgiveness for during this time.

CHURCH TOUR

On Friday 15th June, after recess Mrs Meyer, Mr Torrese and myself will be heading to the Church with the students to meet with Fr. Ian. We will be visiting the church for a practice of the Sacrament, followed by a tour of the church with Fr. Ian, where they will be encouraged to ask any questions about the church and the Sacrament.

Students will need to bring a packed lunch and water bottle to have at the church on the day.
If your child is receiving the wine at the First Eucharist, Fr. Ian would like the mother's of the children to present this to them at mass. We will be practicing this at the church on Friday, so if you are available to come at 12pm to quickly run through it you are more than welcome to meet us there.

If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact myself, Amie or Adrian via email at any stage.

IMPORTANT EVENTS COMING UP:
First Eucharist Money is NOW DUE - ONLY TWO PEOPLE LEFT!!
Just a reminder that those participating in the Eucharist, need to pay $10 to cover the costs of the little gifts, certificates and treat they will receive. I thank you to those people who have already handed this in.

First Eucharist Family Poster - NEARLY DUE!
Just a reminder that these are due on Monday 11th June (this week), so we have enough time to display it at the church before the Eucharist mass. All children are to complete one of these to display. On Monday 11th June, I will be emailing families who haven't handed in this poster.

First Eucharist Mass - Sunday 17th June
On Sunday 17th June at 9am, we have our First Eucharist Mass where the children will receive communion for the first time. It is expected that everyone attends the mass, even those not receiving the sacrament, in support of their peers. Morning tea will follow after mass.

WORLD REFUGEE RICE FOR LUNCH DAY
In the lastest newsletter, an initiative was explained about World Refugee Day, where we are offering the students at OLC a lunch of rice, lentil & chick pea, dahl and flat breads for lunch on world refugee day, in exchange for a donation of money. Attached to that email was a form that needs to be filled in and returned to me by Wednesday 13th June.

Even if you can’t help but would like your child to participate, please still return the form so that we can estimate quantities for cooking.

Enjoy the remainder of the weekend!

Mrs Ricciardone & Mr Torrese
