This video shows a nine times tables strategy that we were shown in class today by one of the students. It was made into a video so that we can watch it to remind us of the strategy!
Good morning, Welcome to Year 6! I hope you all had a relaxing holiday enjoying the summer weather and making precious family memories. Whilst it has gone quickly, I am happy to be getting back into it and setting some routines to keep me on the straight and narrow. Words fail to express how lucky and privileged both Alison and I feel to be having this group of students again before they leave OLC. Since having them in 2018, I have seen some amazing maturity and growth take place (I thank Mr D and you wonderful parents for that). For this reason, I expect big things from them all, as I know they are incredible little humans and have such great potential as the leaders of the school. Each student will need to take on greater roles and responsibilities this year in preparation for high school, enabling a smooth transition. As well as greater academic responsibilities, they will also be apart of a Ministry team that carries out different roles weekly. Here are...
Good afternoon parents, Welcome to another amazing week here in 4R. I hope that you stayed cool in the heat of Saturday...I was lucky enough to enjoy a delicious high tea for an important charity and then spend time chilling by the pool. It was a little devastating when I soon realised it was time to start reports! We had a fantastic excursion to Eagle Heritage last Thursday and another huge thank you to Fiona, Michelle, Mike and John for coming along to keep us safe and make sure that no birds of prey carried anyone off! The students will be using this information that they gathered to begin planning for the bird of prey information report that we will be starting next week! Our day was then finished off superbly with an artist workshop conducted by Alan Meyburgh...after a slight change to plan he came up to school and we had a great time working in the hall on creating a sculpture of a bird using a variety of recycled materials. I was blown away by the...
Good morning, I hope you are having a great weekend. As I sit here looking at the beautiful sunrise, I can't help be thankful for the amazing place we live and the opportunity I have to do what I love: that is teach your children! CLASSROOM LITERACY In Spelling last week we started to learn our new rules, one fun way to reinforce our knowledge of the words was to trace them on each others back. This proved to be highly motivating, yet a little more challenging than the children had thought! The students will continue to learn the same spelling rules this week, due to the shortened week last week. Last week the students began planning a Persuasive text on their own chosen class pet. We spent Wednesday and Thursday planning out our arguments and then on Friday we wrote our introduction. This week will continue to write our expositions; using high modality words, time connectives, varied sentence openers, emotive language and good paragraph structures. I look for...
