Week 1 Term 2

Good evening all,

I hope you all had a wonderful break chasing the sun and appreciating the beautiful place in which we live! I still can't believe how amazing this area is, we turned into tourists over the holidays and loved finding new little treasures!

CLASSROOM
WELCOME BACK to Lachlan Hayhow, we are very excited to have you join us this term!

This week we are straight into it, all programs are a go!

Here is an outline of the concepts we will be covering this term:
Religion - Coming to Your Table (Eucharist) & The Spirit Strengthens (Confirmation)
Literacy - Writing: Narratives, Diary Entries and Poetry
              - Reading : Reading Comprehension (focusing on a strategy each fortnight), Grammar/Word                  Study
              - Spelling: Lists created for individual groups (Based on Words Their Way and THRASS)
Maths - Division, Chance and Probability, Fractions & Problem Solving, Length
Geography - Colonisation &Sustainable Living
History - Early World Exploration
Science - Chemical Sciences
Health - Friendology & Keeping Safe
Design and Technology - Fibres and Uthando Doll Making

PENCIL CASES - Can you please ensure your child has their stationary (glue, pencils and pens) topped up by Tuesday, as there was a lot of borrowing from me towards the end of last term and my resources are now limited. It is important they have their blue and red pens this term, as we will be using them to write instead of using pencil. Thank you for your assistance with this.

HOMEWORK
Spelling - LSCWC (each night) and 1 activity (per week)
-This term the weekly spelling test will take place on a Thursday, and the students will receive their new words on a Friday. This is to alleviate the pressure on a Friday morning.
PLEASE NOTE: This week, there will be no spelling test, the students will keep their words until next Thursday 10th May.

Mental Maths - Think Mentals, Unit 11

Reading - Reading Log

- This term the students only have the Reading Log to complete, no additional Word Study or Book Review. I have changed this so the children can really focus on Reading and completing the Reading Log well!

NOTICES
FIRST EUCHARIST PARENT/CHILD WORKSHOP
This Thursday 3rd May there will be a parent and child workshop in the Hall to learn about the Sacrament of Eucharist in an interactive way. It will take place at 5.30pm, and all Year 4 parents and students are invited to attend. During this session you will sit with your child in a small group and share supper as part of the workshop. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us, however a further email will be sent from Mrs Meyers very soon.

FIRST EUCHARIST COMMITMENT MASS/YEAR 4 FAMILY MASS
This Saturday 5th May there is a Commitment and Year 4 Family Mass at the Church at 6pm. It is important that you make the time to attend this mass to show support for the students who are preparing for the Sacrament of Eucharist this term.

PARENT HELP
If you are free to attend, Mr Torrese requires assistance on Wednesday from 11.40-12.40 for Maths and 2.00-3.00 for the Euthando Dolls.
The new 'Parent Help Roster' is now posted on the class notice board, it would be greatly appreciated if you can donate any of your time to help out with the running of the groups.

Have a great week and I look forward to seeing your gorgeous children on Tuesday morning.

Mrs Ricciardone
