Week 4 Term 3!

Good evening parents,

Another week in 4R has come and gone...I myself have no idea where it went! 
Already we have started the week with a bang. It was so nice to see some of the hard work put in last week enjoyed this morning. I have included some photos of us playing 'Collect 4' at gathering time, which is a game that practices using hyperboles. It was so rewarding to see the children know what an hyperbole is and how it can be used in a sentence! What a way to start the week:) 




REMINDERS - WEEK 4

Mission Market Donations - We are in desperate need of more donations for our lucky dip bags for Thursday. If you have not already sent in your donations, can you please do so by tomorrow morning...at this stage we will only be able to make approximately 25 bags for sale between the two classes.

On Thursday morning we will walking down to Mass on Thursday morning to celebrate Mass at OLOTSC to begin at 9.30am. If you are able to join us you are most welcome!

Students are to wear their Sports Uniform for Thursday.

Uthando Dolls - A huge thank you to those helpers that were able to come in on Wednesday to help out...the kids had a wonderful time working on their dolls and I am looking forward to seeing them as they progress.

Just a reminder if you have any spare beads, buttons or coloured yarn we would be very grateful!

If you can also make sure that you have also sent in the $1 that will be used for postage...perhaps this could come from the child themselves if possible?


STEM Friday's - On Friday the students will begin building their bridges. They will need to bring in the items that have decided on with their partner. Please check in with your child and prepare your cupboards to be raided...think straws, pop sticks, string, chicken wire, empty toilet and paper towel rolls, shoe boxes, pipe cleaners etc. This list has been written in their laptops so please check in with them! I would advise doing this before Friday morning to prevent additional stress!



OUR LEARNING - WEEK 4 


In Maths, we have been working hard on understanding fractions of a collect, equivalent fractions and we are now looking at mixed and improper fractions before moving on to adding and subtracting fractions with same denominators.

Any time you can point out parts of a fraction and a whole together that would be really helpful...particularly talking about how many parts things can be cut into...mealtimes, snack times or in prepping fruit for weekend sport helps to see Math's outside the classroom!

HOMEWORK - WEEK 4

Please see below for the homework assigned for this week. If you can please support your child to complete all parts of their homework each week. This helps with their personal organisation and reduces their anxiety of getting in trouble when it is not done. 


1. Reading - Students are to read for 10 minutes each night.
2. Timetables - Free Choice -  Students are to practice at least 4 times throughout the week at home. Choose the challenging ones and please test them in and out of order verbally.

3. Mental Maths- Complete Unit 21, p 44 & 45. All sections are to be completed by Friday. These are marked on Friday.

4. Spelling - the students are to complete LSCWC and their 'Words Within in Sentences' into their Homework books by Friday. 

5. STEM - Collect items for your bridge construction. Due Friday 16th August

Week 8 Term 2

Good afternoon parents, I can not begin to explain how proud I was of all the students yesterday at the First Eucharist mass. They acted with great reverence and respect, participating so well in every part of the mass.  A tear did well in my eye when I saw the students reciting the prayers and completing the actions at the appropriate times. We thank you for the support and guidance you have given throughout the preparation of the sacrament. All of the students have taken home today their poster, banner, prayer card and cross as little mementos for you to keep and reflect on in time to come. Congratulations to Lucas, Taylah and Gabriel on receiving a Merit award at Friday's assembly, they are working hard to achieve their best . Sally the Sloth

Good afternoon parents, I hope you are well and the week is flying by, getting us a closer to the weekend ahead! I am writing to you to clarify the recent news the children received about Sally the Sloth in class, as I know there has been a lot of excitement around this.  As part of the Talk4Write PD I completed before school started this term, I was taught a new concept of when introducing a new writing genre, try to create a 'hook' to get the students really excited, engaged and wanting to learn more about the subject. At the start of this Term we are focusing on Persuasive writing, therefore the 'hook' I created was that Sally the sloth is apart of a breeding program at the Perth Zoo and I had made an application to have the chance to babysit Sally for a week.
