Week 4 Term 1

Good afternoon,

As I sit and write this blog, I am suffering with a severe case of déjà vu. With the combination of swimming lessons, parent evenings, introduction of iPads, mass and assembly, I can now see why it was a race to the finish line to complete the work I set out to do this week. Despite all this, we still managed to cover some key learning outcomes this week.

CLASSROOM
In Mathematics, we have got into our 'Number' unit revising odd and even numbers, place value and comparing and ordering numbers using the symbols > (greater than) and < (less than). The children have then consolidated this learning, through using their iPads to complete set Mathletics tasks.

Within Literacy we have continued learning our Persuasive model text, as well as, identifying the structure of this genre. Together we have highlighted the 5 key features (our toolkit) we need to use to write a successful persuasive argument. We will be focusing on these features in the upcoming week before the students begin to write their own examples.

As Wednesday marked the start of Lent, we placed a significant focus on the history and meaning of Lent this week. Students then learnt about the sacrifice Jesus made for us during His time in the desert, which in turn lead them to think about the sacrifices they were going to make during Lent. You can see the promises made by the students on 'Our Lenten Promises' display in class.

HOMEWORK
WEEK 4 -
1. Reading - 10 minutes each night. Students will be given a text (on Monday) from Reading Eggspress to read over this upcoming week, therefore they will need their iPad for their Reading homework this week.  We ask that you initial the Reading Log each night, once your child has completed the appropriate section.
2. Mental Maths - Think Mentals 4 Student Book, Week 3: students are to complete a column each night. These will be marked the next day in class, so we are able to discuss the more challenging concepts.
3. Spelling - Complete LOOK, SAY, COVER, WRITE, CHECK with their given spelling words. They are to also complete one spelling activity into their homework book from the spelling grid (Please remind the students to colour the grid once they have completed an activity).
4. Photography - The students need to take 6 photos based on the theme 'FEET'. They are to create a pic collage of these 6 pictures and upload this into their Class Notebook file. The students have been shown how to do this, however Mr Torrese and myself are available if the students need a reminder.

As you are aware, swimming trials will take place this Tuesday 20th February from 9am-12pm at Geographe Leisure Centre. Please ensure your child comes to school in their bathers under their sports uniform, just like we did for swimming lessons.
