Week 8 Term 3
Good morning Parents,
It seems that I am not the only one who had a busy weekend...a lot of the children have come into class today looking very weary!
This week is the big one... OUR PERFORMANCE ASSEMBLY! Please check it off on your calendars and be free on Friday at 9am in the hall! You won't be disappointed!
HASS Diorama Assignment - As mentioned in a separate post last week, we will begin painting and working on our dioramas in class tomorrow. Can you please make sure that you do not let your inner creative loose and start prepping the box at home! The students will have plenty of time and support to work on their projects in class, no matter how large the box is.
I will not have any boxes for the students tomorrow as I have not been lucky enough to buy any new shoes, so please, beg, borrow or steal a box for your child to work on. Their session tomorrow will be wasted if they don't bring their box and will also put them behind in the construction of their project. It doesn't have to be a show box if you are desperate.
Open Classroom Evening - On the final Monday of term 23rd September, from 5-6pm, we will be holding our Learning Journey to share the rich learning that has taken place in classes this term. If parents assemble in the hall at 5pm, there will be a short welcome and musical presentation. All parents are then free to walk through the classrooms to
look at their child's work and classroom displays.
School Photos - A reminder that these are on this Thursday and Friday 12th and 13th September. We will be having our class photo on Thursday - please make sure that you have made your order by the end of today.
Students are expected to be well groomed and correctly attired in their formal winter uniform. This includes: polished shoes, hair neat and tied back if necessary, skirts at the correct length, white or grey socks. All students are to be wearing or bringing their jumper for the day.
Year 3/4 Throws - Are on this Wednesday, please make sure that your child comes wearing their faction T-Shirt on this day.
Laptops - Just another reminder of the importance of your child's laptop coming to school each day as well as being fully charged. As part of our sustainability initiative, Sandy and I are looking to massively reduce the amount of paper being used in class. Where possible, all activities and resources will be placed on One Note for the students to access rather than a printed copy.
This includes our resources for our guided reading and writing. If your child doesn't have their device it can impact their ability to be able to fully participate in their activities.
Students that don't bring their devices will be issued with an infringement notice (which will be brought home for your signature) which will result in a behaviour slip to be completed during their lunch or recess break.
In Math's this week, we have begun designing a mini golf course. The students were given their design brief today and will be working on this in class over the coming days. They are welcome to have a look at photos for inspiration and are able to bring their books home to work on if they are feeling particularly excited. They are to make sure that they come back to school each day.
In our Keeping Safe lessons last week, we looked at the parts of body and the importance of knowing and using the correct names for these. The students were very mature and respectful during this time as it can be a little confronting. I have attached a photo of the work that the students did to help with any questions you or they may have...some students have mentioned that they feel a little uncomfortable talking about things like this. I reassured them that this was very natural and they shouldn't be embarrassed as it is a part of our body just like our ear...if they bring it up with you this may help provide some context though.
4. Spelling - the students are to complete LSCWC and their 'Words Within in Sentences' into their Homework books by Friday.
5. Champion Life Challenges - If you can encourage your child to complete at least one video challenge a week. All videos that are uploaded are only seen by the Champion Life staff and teacher to which the class has been assigned...in this instance me.
This is a fantastic initiative which whilst increasing levels of physical activity also aims to inspire students through valuable life learning.
6. Science Research Project - Please check in with your child to see how they are they are travelling. This is due next Tuesday 17th September!

Last Friday in our STEM Challenges session, we had a fantastic time creating our parachutes! The brief was to create a parachute that would fall as slowly as possible...there was some very creative designs that took place and the learning buzz was incredible to see.
Jaz and Rhavi was able to create a design that took over 4.4 seconds to hit the ground...well done Jaz and Rhavi! Our little engineers!

2. Mental Maths- Complete Unit 25, p 50 & 51. All sections are to be completed by Friday. This is marked on Friday morning, can you please ensure your child has it here!
