Week 2 Term 2

Good morning all,

Thankyou to the families who were able to make it last night, to the Year 4 Family and Eucharist Commitment Mass. It was so lovely to see you all there and I was so proud of the way the students engaged in the mass.

CLASSROOM
Congratulations to Charlie and Lochie on receiving a Merit award at Friday's assembly, they are both very deserving recipients!🎉

Last week we planned our new Literacy and Math's goals for this term. They are displayed in the classroom, so that the children are continually reminded of what they have set out to achieve and how they will do it by the end of the term. Please feel free to come in and have a sneak peek of what they feel is important for their success.

This week looks like this:

Literacy
1. Reading Comprehension Strategy - In our reading groups this week, we will be looking at the Reading Strategy of 'Inferring'. Inferring means to use clues and prior knowledge to construct meaning beyond what is said in the text. More information can be found at https://reading.ecb.org/teacher/inferring.html.
2. Spelling - Kangaroo group - prefixes 'mono, uni, bi and tri'
Possum group - ambiguous vowels 'ou, ow, oi, oy'
Lorakeet group - /j/ sound - made by 'dge, ge, j and g'
3. Narratives- this week we are focusing on charcterisation and developing AMAZING character descriptions within our narratives. We will also look at direct and indirect speech used within narratives.

Maths
We will continue to learn our mental division strategies this week, practicing dividing by 10 and 100, halving and using the split strategy.

HASS
We will continue to explore Colonisation: identifying the famous early explorers of Australia and the effect Colonisation had on the Indigenous Australians.

HOMEWORK
Spelling - LSCWC (each night) and 1 activity (per week)
-This term the weekly spelling test will take place on a Thursday, and the students will receive their new words on a Friday.
PLEASE NOTE: This week, they will have the same words as last week.

Mental Maths - Think Mentals, Unit 12

Reading - Reading Log

- This term the students only have the Reading Log to complete, no additional Word Study or Book Review. I have changed this so the children can really focus on Reading and completing the Reading Log well!

Thank you again for the parent help we are receiving, it is amazing to have a such a positive parent involvement. It allows us to make our teaching as explicit and student directed as possible.

Have a great week!
