Week 7 - IMPORTANT STUFF BELOW!

Good morning everyone,

I hope your weekend has treated you well and the children have had a chance to rest and recoup ready for the last week of the their swimming lessons.

Congratulations to Lucy McKeaig on receiving our Star Citizen Award and to Jaz Currie on receiving the merit award this week. They are both outstanding role models within our class who are showing many positive learning qualities. I'm happy to brag with you all that there are so many positive things to celebrate in our class at the moment.

REMINDERS - WEEK 7

SWIMMING LESSONS:
A big thank you to you all for being so organised with the children's swimming needs last week, the sessions ran really well, with only a few occasions where a t-shirt went walkabouts, a towel/thongs were left at school and a forgotten rashie. All in all, it was pretty easy experience! I am hoping it remains the same for this week.

Just a reminder that there is NO canteen at all this week, due to the students being absent at the eating times.

Majority of the children have been very responsible with applying sunscreen before we leave using the class sunscreen that I distribute, however can you please ensure that you remind your child of how important it is to do this.

DAY SWAP:

Mrs Martin has an appointment that she must attend this Wednesday the 20th of March, therefore we have swapped her work day. This week, Mrs Martin will be working on Tuesday 19th of March and I will do Wednesday instead.

STUDENT LAPTOPS:

The students will be receiving their laptops to bring home today. The students will be having an information session with Mrs Janine Johnson and myself in library this afternoon. In this session the students will found out the basics of how to use the laptop and the safety procedures that need to take place for them to ensure that are protected and cared for. They will also learn about what applications are currently installed on the laptops.

Obviously as we use these devices more and more, the students will develop a greater familiarity with its functions. Your child may have questions about the laptop and what they can do, please encourage them to ask and Janine will endeavour to answer as many questions as best possible.

Just a reminder that Janine is offering parent information sessions to share what she has done to setup and prepare the laptops for the children. These will take place on Monday the 25th March at 2.15pm and again at 5.30pm in the Library if you are free to attend.

Please do not hesitate to contact myself or Janine (janine.johnson@cewa.edu.au) if you have any further questions about the laptops.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS:
Year 4R Parent-Teacher meetings will be held across week 8 and week 9.I have placed a copy of the roster for our meetings on the Front door outside the classroom. A copy of the roster has also been provided below. If you would like to email me your first 3 preferences for times I can select a time for you and add it to the roster (I will confirm your time through email). Otherwise please feel free to add your time when you visit the classroom next. I am hoping that by offering a range of times, that I have catered for all families and their needs.

PARENT HELP NEEDED:
We are looking for some help with our reading groups on a Monday and Tuesday at 9am and Wednesday at 10am beginning next week. We would need you for approximately 30 minutes.

You would be there to provide supervision, reading and literacy support to a small group of students…no previous experience necessary! You would have a group leader and a very clear explanation of what the students need to do.

I will put a roster (see below) up on the front door of our class for the remainder of the term, if you are able to come in for any time, it would be greatly appreciated! I can not guarantee that you will be placed with your child for this time as we have a set schedule that the students work through. Please don’t feel bad if you are unable to help because of work or younger siblings or other commitments, we completely understand!

HOMEWORK - WEEK 7

Please see below for the homework assigned for this week.

Can I please ask that you keep asking and checking in with your child that they are doing all of their homework, as there were around 50% of students last week that didn't complete certain parts.

1. Reading - Students are to read for 10 minutes each night and enter it into their Reading Log. They are to bring it to you to be signed each night.

2. Timetables practise - they need to begin learning their 7 timestables this week.
The students will be tested on their 6 times tables this week.

The students are to practise at least 5 times throughout the week at home. We are hoping that you are able to quiz them as often as possible to ensure their recall of their timestable facts is accurate and efficient. Please sign their Homework log when you have done this.

3. Mental Maths- Complete Unit 6, p.12&13. This will be marked on Friday morning.

4. Spelling - the students are to complete LSCWC with their new spelling words each night.
They are to also complete dictionary meanings for their words which are due on Friday morning.

Enjoy week seven everyone, it is going to be a big one with the exciting inclusion of the laptops!

Many thanks,

Sandy and Alison
