Term 3 Week 1

Welcome back to term 3

Hopefully everybody had a refreshing and revitalising term break.

Towards the end of last term, I started to feel that homework needed to be jazzed up a bit.  as a result, I have made a big change to make it more meaningful and hopefully engaging!  I have drawn from people like Ian Lillico in developing a homework grid that provides more choice and acknowledges the role that other activities at home take in the growth of students.  I have explained this grid and sent it home with the children today.

As the homework grid provides more choice, I have also set and explained the rules, particularly with compulsory activities.  Please discuss this grid with your child when they get home. You will notice that many of the activities the children can choose may already be regularly undertaken, but are designed to encourage a number of important skills, including communication skills and risk taking (safely), as well as academics.

I would still like you to mark your child's homework when they complete it and initial the choice grids that are completed by your child.  The bottom of the grid also asks that you confirm that homework has been completed.

Mental maths is a compulsory homework task and this week is Unit 19.  We have practiced the division strategy in class and I have included a video on edmodo to help should it be required at home.

As always, if homework is taking an unusually long time due to understanding rather than effort, please let me know.

Good evening, What a well-timed long weekend! It was a a great chance to rest and recoup, with lots of fun things to do in the most beautiful place with the most beautiful weather! Sally the Sloth

Good afternoon parents, I hope you are well and the week is flying by, getting us a closer to the weekend ahead! I am writing to you to clarify the recent news the children received about Sally the Sloth in class, as I know there has been a lot of excitement around this.  As part of the Talk4Write PD I completed before school started this term, I was taught a new concept of when introducing a new writing genre, try to create a 'hook' to get the students really excited, engaged and wanting to learn more about the subject. At the start of this Term we are focusing on Persuasive writing, therefore the 'hook' I created was that Sally the sloth is apart of a breeding program at the Perth Zoo and I had made an application to have the chance to babysit Sally for a week. Week 8 Term 2

Good afternoon parents, I can not begin to explain how proud I was of all the students yesterday at the First Eucharist mass. They acted with great reverence and respect, participating so well in every part of the mass.  A tear did well in my eye when I saw the students reciting the prayers and completing the actions at the appropriate times. We thank you for the support and guidance you have given throughout the preparation of the sacrament. All of the students have taken home today their poster, banner, prayer card and cross as little mementos for you to keep and reflect on in time to come. Congratulations to Lucas, Taylah and Gabriel on receiving a Merit award at Friday's assembly, they are working hard to achieve their best .
